In the year 1936, Hailey National Park is launched in the Uttar Pradesh. This is the first Reserve National Park of India . The Hailey National Park became Ramganga national Park in 1952 after the river that flows through the region. In 1957 the park was renamed as Corbett National Park in honour of the Jim Corbett - the famous naturalist, hunter and the writer of the famous book 'Man Eater of Kumaon'. The winter home of this great naturalist is in Kaladhungi, just 40 km away from the Ramnagar, has been converted into a museum. In 1973 when the Project Tiger was launched the park became a Tiger Reserve. Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary merged with the Corbett Tiger Reserve by the late eighties.

The Corbett Tiger Reserve located in the Nainital and Pauri Garhwal districts of Uttar Pradesh, now is in Uttaranchal. It is just 19 km far away from the Ramnagar, the meeting point of western Himalaya and the central Himalaya which is drained by many rivers. The Corbett Tiger Reserve occupies an approximate area of 1300 sq. km. It is just 300 km away from Delhi.

The Corbett National Park is divided into the three geographical areas. The deciduous forest, grassland with canyon and the dense forests of sal trees. The Ramganga River flows through the park. 330 sq.km. core region is restricted to any kind of safaris, but one may trek on foot in this region.



The Corbett National Park has wide and rich variety of Fauna and flora. There are near about 37 species of grass and shrubs, 110 species of trees, 50 species of mammals, 45 reptiles, and above 450 birds species. Due to the suitable location this is the only Reserve Park where the Himalayan black bear are found. The Himalayan Palm Civet and Ghoral are rarely seen in the region. The viewing this difficult species depends only on luck. The high altitude Steppe Eagle and Lammergeirs eagle found only here. Beside this Osprey, Lesser Fish Eagle, Crested Serpent Eagle, Pallas's Fish Eagle, Mountain Hawk Eagle, Brown Hawk Owl, Spot bellied Eagle Owl, Black Eagle, Red Junglefowl, Great Slaty woodpecker, Blue throated barbet, Dollarbird, Greater Racket-tailed Drongo, Oriental Pied Hornbill and many more species can be explore. The most incredible tiger, Leopard, Jungle Cat, Wild Dog, Hog Deer, Goral, Sambhar, Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, Sloth Bear, Gaur, Cheetal and many other animal species are explore in the park. The most dangerous and interesting fish eating crocodile and marsh crocodile found in the Ramganga river reservoir.

The best time to visit the park is November to June. The Luxurious and quality lodges and rest houses are situated near the park or within the Reserve premises. The Corbett hideaway, Claridges Corbett, Corbett Riverside Resort, Hotel Infinity Resort, Quality Inn Resort are some of the main Resorts of Corbett national park. The open camp also attracts the visitors. The adventure lover can enjoy Mahseer fishing and angling in the Ramganga River.
