Pangot


Pangot is small village 15 kilometers from Nainital, the drive takes only 25 minutes to get there. The entire drive is through the forested area of Cheena Peak Range via Snow View Point and Kilbury, the main habitats for excellent birding.
One can see a variety of Himalayan species along the way such as lammergeier, Himalayan griffon, blue-winged minla, spotted & slaty-backed forktail, rufous-bellied woodpecker, rufous-bellied niltava, khalij pheasant, variety of thrushes etc. Almost 150 bird species have been recorded at Pangot and surrounding areas.The numerous perennial & seasonal creeks are home to an amazing variety of flora and fauna including the leopard, yellow-throated Himalayan martins, Himalayan palm civet, ghoral, barking deer, sambhar etc.


Accommodation
As you reach village Pangot, you are guided to Jungle Lore Birding Lodge by the local people. A 5-minute walk down to the lodge rewards you with common stonechat, dark-throated thrush, slaty-headed parakeet, streaked-laughing thrush, red-billed blue magpie, yellow-breasted green finch, russet sparrow etc.

The lodge has 4 cottages with attached toilets with running hot & cold water. One of the four cottages is a living room that serves the purpose of a dining hall. The other three cottages are independent bedrooms with twin beds, two of them having an attic each that can accommodate two additional persons in each attic.

The main cottage and one other cottage have fireplaces. Heaters are provided in each cottage in winter. You have the options of large tent for people who enjoy camping with independent toilet and bathroom.

The small cottage has an attached toilet and a hot shower. The size of the small cottage is 12x12. The extra bed will be on the floor or a folding bed.

The std. cottage has an attached toilet and a hot shower. The size of the cottage is 13x13. The extra beds will be in the attic that has access from the room itself.

The large cottage has an attached toilet and a hot shower. The extra beds will be in the attic that has access from the room itself. This cottage also has a fireplace.

The Swiss tent has an independent toilet and a hot shower. The tent can accommodate two persons on camp cots. The size of each tent is 16x10

We have 4 rooms in Kafal House with en suite facilities, adjoining Jungle Lore.

Cuisine

To satisfy your appetite cooks specializing in Indian & western cuisine churn out the unexpected and special care is taken in hygienic preparation of all meals. A few things are grown organically on our land.

Location
Located in the northwestern forest range of Nainital is the village of Pangot.
Surrounded by thick oak and rhododendron forest on three sides this lodge, it is a typical Kumaoni hill settlement with about 15 families.

One can still observe the age old lifestyle of the hill folk in Pangot.
